All about Award Winning Author Kathryn James

Hi, I write for 9-13 years and YA, which stands for young adult.

Here’s a few facts about me -

I live in Leicester and have two sons and one baby granddaughter.

I don’t like shopping or shoes or the colour pink or cake or chocolate – all the things girls and women are supposed to like! I do however like smoky bacon crisps, horse riding, feisty heroines in books, white knuckle rides and sci fi.

I wrote my first book when I was about 8 years old, it was about ponies because I was a pony mad girl. It was one page long – oh those were the days! Now my books have between 50,000 and 60,000 words.

I’ve had lots of jobs, some good, some dire. Good ones were scuba diving in Malta, and writing scripts for a video production company. Of course writing scripts also means that you end up playing bit parts in the productions. I’ve been a lollipop lady, a builder, an auntie and a hula hooper.

The best job I had was working with Gypsies and travellers, making videos and doing photography sessions.

My favourite place in the UK has to be the stretch of beach between Porthtowan and Chapelporth on the North Cornwall coast. It’s like being transported back to 10,000BC, it’s primeval and beautiful and wild.

I love wolves. I love pictures of wolves and books about wolves. I think in another life I was probably raised by wolves.

These are my books so far!

Sammy-Jo is strong, fast and tough, even in heels.

She gets into trouble with bad guy McCloud when she fights some local thugs to save rich boy Gregory. And now it’s not just Gregory who is in danger, but Sammy-Jo’s whole family.

“One of best YA thrillers for a long, long time. Sammy-Jo is an utterly amazing heroine! Jim@yayeahyeah

“There’s something in the mist – as beautiful as starlight, as fierce as wolves, as heartless as ice…”

Midnight in the woods, Nell searches for her sister, who has disappeared into the mist. And there she meets the mysterious Evan, with his pale skin
and charcoal eyes. Does he hold the key to saving Gwen?

The follow-on to Mist. A tale of danger and dark secrets. And it has wolves!

Nell is thrown into even more danger when the Elven world beyond the mist is ravaged by a deadly ice storm. Evan’s world is being destroyed and only he and Nell can save it. She has to go further into the forest, where a deadly lake of ice and an ancient enemy await her…
